Producer, rapper and vocalist Shunaji releases her new single ‘Wild Coast’ remixed by Henry Keen, the final remix from her 2020 EP, ‘Cosmic Blues’.
The London-via-Rome artist has established herself as one to watch. Shunaji’s dynamic productions have set alight her path so far, garnering support from Help Musicians, PRS Foundation and Sound and Music, in recognition of her innovative musical style.
This Wild Coast remix represents a further branch in Shunaji’s tree of musical inspiration. Blending acid house, electro-funk and broken beat, Henry Keen showcases the adaptability of Shunaji’s already eclectic repertoire.
In Henry's own words:
"I remember watching Shunaji perform Wild Coast at her London headline show, and hearing her inspiration for the track”.
Wild Coast, the second track from Shunaji’s Cosmic Blues EP, was written and arranged during her solo road trip across Southern California in October 2019. The track’s sonic elements of flute and backing vocals are inspired by and a homage to the Navajo peoples of North America.
Henry continues “I’d made a similar Californian Road trip myself the previous spring, so connected with the subject matter, as well as loving the vibe of the track.
When Shunaji asked me if I would like to remix a ‘Cosmic Blues’ track, I knew which track I wanted the stems for. During the production of the remix, I was having fun with a Roland TB-303 clone. So, I decided to try a funky acid bassline with a chopped up break as the basis for the tune, whilst synthesising chords through my Korg Polysix for a vintage boogie flavour".

This is a paradox, I'm tying knots. My body, electric, mechanical.

We turned on to Emma Jean at Monterey Jazz Fest, and she's the reason I went from 'ehhh I'm not sure I like Acid Jazz and I sure as hell don't like fusion" to "what the hell is *this awesome galactic brilliance?!* A rare talent and a damn fine slab of wax that I have on heavy rotation. I love many tracks including 'Spectre', and i wonder to myself how much it owes to Kate Bush's spectral "Watching You Without Me." jaxers

My god, what an absolutely incredible Suite. I'll admit, I've struggled to get into Pharoah Sanders due to diving headfirst into some of his most challenging catalogue and that never worked. This is the perfect place to restart. Floating Points is new for me and I can honestly say I've never heard synthesizer music this lush and organic before. the LSO is just perfect. This is one of those albums that any serious music fan needs in their life. The perfect swan song for the great Pharaoh! 5/5 ClassyMusicSnob
