London-based rapper and producer Shunaji has just released her latest single, "Evil Cute". The track tackles themes of self-empowerment, toxic relationships, and negative stereotypes that women face in society.
With her signature blend of introspective lyricism and vibrant production, Shunaji has crafted an anthem for women who are tired of being pigeonholed into negative labels, and are ready to break free from stereotypes and harassment.
"'Evil Cute' is about rejecting harmful stereotypes that are placed on women, and taking ownership of our own identity," says Shunaji. "It's about standing up for yourself and not letting others, particularly men, define who you are."
The track features Shunaji's characteristic smooth rap flow and honest lyricism, as she reflects on the emotions that come with becoming an independent and free-thinking woman. With the catchy hook "I’m a woman of my word, and you get what you deserve," she captures the strength that comes from letting go of someone who doesn't deserve her love and affection.
The track also highlights the negative stereotypes that women face in society, such as the "femme fatale" and "dragon lady" archetypes. Shunaji raps that "Good girls go last, and [she] ain’t got no time for that so please just let [her] pass", driving home the message that women should be allowed to define themselves on their own terms, and learn to be non-compliant with reductive feminine stereotypes.
In "Evil Cute," Shunaji proves once again why she's one of the most exciting and socially conscious artists in the UK hip-hop scene. The track is available now on all major streaming platforms, and fans can look forward to more new music from Shunaji in the coming months.
lyrics
More evil, less cute
I'm a woman of my word
And you get what tou deserve
Let me tell you about
How I'm livin' without you
Cause I'm a woman of my word
And you get what you deserve
Let me tell you about
How I'm livin' without you
Good girls go last
And I ain't got no time for that
So, please, just let me pass
Guess I'm boiling fast like pasta
Alien alienated like I'm channeling Kafka
After all the tears comes laughter
Now hasta la vista e basta
I need time to think and plan
My return to sender
Believe me that I do got stamps
Period
Bitch, don't kill my vibe, like cramps
I'm not available so book me in advance
Still madder than a villain
I don't slay them, I kill 'em
Give me a goody to finish
I'm only jokin', like Phoenix
I'm a woman of my word
And you get what you deserve
Let me tell you about
How I'm livin' without you
Off the charts
Michael Jackson, Thriller
Got me stuck up in the middle
It's the brand Gorilla
Kiss me deadly, that's a lip filler
I get bigger hot-boxing in your bed
And smoking sensimilla, my painkiller
Said he'd rather feel her, than fill her
Now we're quoting M.I.A.
Like "everybody's a winner"
But if it's hell I couldn't tell
Because I've never been there
I'm not a saint and I'm not a sinner
I'm a woman of my word
And you get what tou deserve
Let me tell you about
How I'm livin' without you
Cause I'm a woman of my word
And you get what you deserve
Let me tell you about
How I'm livin' without you
Living without you
Living without you
Living without you
Living without you
Less evil, more cute

This is criminally underrated. I wish more people would notice their chemistry because it's off the charts. Alfa and Emmavie shine on every track at every second - it's hard to find this quality of work these days but wow, they deserve all the praise for a flawless record. Tevin Lind
